Door knockers ... mostly, London, England

We were celebrating the 1984 New Year in London: the weather was miserably cold, only a few hundred people gathered around Trafalgar Square, two lonely firework rockets at the stroke of midnight. Only the pubs were bursting at the seams. The next day we ventured out to Mayfair, an affluent area in the West End of London towards the eastern edge of Hyde Park. There were lots of traditional shops to admire, like the butcher shop “Allens of Mayfair” or next door “Culpeper the Herbalist” with the enticing display of their wares. And then the endless variety of door knockers on the private homes ... beautiful.
